The OnePlus 7 Pro Will Support HDR10+ and Come in Pretty Colors
We are just a week away from OnePlus’ next phone announcement, and it looks like the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro will be the company’s most ambitious projects yet. OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau has provided some tantalizing tidbits about the device while elsewhere on the internet almost every detail has already leaked.
As for the official confirmations, OnePlus will use a display certified for HDR10+ on the 7 Pro. That’s the latest expanded color space standard backed by Samsung and Amazon. Samsung is almost certainly the panel manufacturer for the OnePlus 7, so that makes sense. With HDR10+ support, you’ll be able to watch video with more vibrant colors on services like YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. OnePlus is only the second OEM to get HDR10+ after Samsung.

OnePlus has also tacitly admitted that the OnePlus 7 Pro won’t be water-resistant. Well, sort of — it depends on your definition of “water-resistant.” OnePlus confirms that there will be no IP rating, so no one has verified the phone survives submersion in water for any length of time. However, OnePlus claims to have done its own “testing” with a bucket. This certainly doesn’t prove anything, but maybe it’ll give you some peace of mind. The company does not recommend you actually dunk your phone, and the warranty won’t cover water damage if you do.
On the unofficial side, renders of the 7 Pro have appeared showing off gray, blue, and “almond” colors. The phone has three cameras on the back like the Galaxy S10. There’s also no display notch on the front, and a few images show that rumored pop-up selfie camera. A leaker claims the 7 Pro will have a 6.67-inch OLED at 1440p with a maximum 90Hz refresh rate. Most phones are 60Hz, so the OnePlus 7 Pro could look incredibly smooth.
Evidence has mounted since the last time we talked about the “regular” OnePlus 7, pointing to a phone that looks very much like the OnePlus 6T. This phone will cost less than the 7 Pro but it reportedly still gets a Snapdragon 855 chip and at least 6GB of RAM. No one has any firm information on pricing, but the existence of the non-Pro variant suggests the OnePlus 7 Pro will be much more spendy than the company’s past phones. We’ll know for sure on May 14.
