ExtremeTalk: What Would You Like to Know About Navi, 7nm Ryzen?

Woof.

Our reviews of both products were strictly performance-focused, with a little power analysis thrown in for flavor. While as thorough as I could make it under the circumstances, there’s plenty of room for follow-up discussion, and I’ve already got a few ideas for projects myself, including:

  • High-speed RAM support and overclocking.
  • The impact of memory bandwidth on the Ryzen 9 3900X’s scaling.
  • The impact of memory bandwidth on all CPUs (starting with 8GB of single-channel RAM and working up from there).

These, however, are all CPU and memory-focused. There is, as they say, more than one way to grease a processor. So what kinds of content or data would you guys be interested in seeing, about either AMD’s new Navi cards or 7nm Ryzen? More power consumption research? Specific head-to-head comparisons? Low-level architectural comparisons and benchmarks? Clock-for-clock testing between RDNA and GCN? A death-match between a grizzly bear and Luthor Hargreeves from The Umbrella Academy?

Alright. That last one could be tricky. But leave me some ideas for what you’d like to see us compare or talk about. Or, if you just have general questions, drop ’em off here. I’ll get them answered.

The goal is to crank out some of this content in fairly short order, but it’ll depend on what kind of ideas or questions you guys have. Please be advised that the ordinary laws of time and space are still in effect; it’d be fascinating to do a global IPC comparison on every AMD versus every Intel CPU, but Jamie refuses to give me eight weeks time off or to buy all the old equipment needed. [Hey! I can read this, you know. -Ed] Also, my SO might have something to say about converting the entire downstairs into an Old Folks Computer Home. [I have in fact done this part, but with 30- and 40-year-old Atari computers instead. -Ed]
