Diablo II: Resurrected Will Launch on Sept. 23, Pre-Orders Now Open

It’s almost time for your next trip to the mystical realm of Sanctuary. Blizzard has announced that Diablo II: Resurrected will launch on September 23rd. This release will bring the iconic story and gameplay of this piece of gaming history to modern hardware. Blizzard has also made numerous quality-of-life improvements, but the save file structure is unchanged. Yes, you can hop right back into your old game.

Like the other Diablo titles, the second incarnation takes place in Sanctuary, a place where mankind struggles to survive, trapped between the forces of the High Heavens and Hell. At the opening of Diablo II, the hero from the original game has been corrupted by the eponymous prime evil, known as Diablo. You take on the mantle of the hero as you seek to eliminate the beast once and for all. With several more games in the series after Diablo II, you can probably guess how this goes.

Blizzard says the basic structure of the game remains unchanged. So, if you had a favorite character class back in the day, things should work pretty much the same now. The story is the same, and you get the whole thing: the base game and the Lords of Destruction expansion. Some of the notable gameplay changes include a shared stash for all your characters and automatic gold pickups.

On September 23rd, Evil will be resurrected.

While the content is the same as it was 20 years ago, the game will look much nicer now with support for 4K resolution and 60fps. It will also support co-op support for up to eight players, and they can even be on different platforms. Diablo II: Resurrected will be available on Xbox Series X and S, as well as the Xbox One, PC, PS4, PS5, and Switch. As promised, the game will even have cross-progression, so you can move your game between devices whenever you want.

You can pre-order the game now on the platform of your choice, priced at $39.99 for the base game and $59.99 for the “Prime Evil Collection.” That version includes Diablo III Eternal Edition and a few cosmetics for both games. If you pre-order, you’ll also be allowed access to the upcoming open beta for Diablo II. We don’t know when that will launch, but it shouldn’t be too long with the final launch just three months away.
