Nvidia Says Its RTX 30-Series GPUs are ‘Restocked and Reloaded’
Note the date and tell your offspring about it someday: April 15th is the day Nvidia GPUs were in stock, finally. The company has launched a “restocked and reloaded” marketing campaign to let people know about it too. Not only are a lot of cards in stock right now, but some of them are even being offered at a discounted price. We promise this is not a late April Fool’s prank.
Nvidia’s landing page for the new promotion states, “GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards are now available!” Obviously our first thought was, “Sure they were, when you made this page a few days ago.” But clicking around the internet we are seeing it is actually true. As of this writing, an RTX 3070 Ti is both in stock and sold by Amazon, and $300 off as well. We even saw an RTX 3080 12GB from EVGA that was also in stock and being offered with a $270 rebate. The EVGA card pictured below went out of stock several minutes after we took this screen cap, so it wasn’t just the result of a broken website or something. This offer actually existed.
Just to be clear, only some GPUs are in stock, and it depends where you look. Not all cards are at MSRP yet, but some cards are and some are even being offered at a discount. Nvidia actually provides a somewhat handy retail price checker, but it’s not at all accurate.
For example, it said the Asus TUF RTX 3080 10GB was $874 on Newegg, but clicking through the price is $1,349. It’s also being sold by a scalper, so in some ways the situation remains unchanged. However, Newegg had several RTX 3080 10GB cards in stock for $999, and sold by Newegg. That’s something we haven’t seen in over a year, if not longer. There are also still some GPUs that you’ll probably never be able to find in stock, such as the Founder’s Edition RTX 3080 and 3090 at Best Buy. It’s not a huge loss though. You’d need a subscription to its $199 a year Totaltech program to buy those.
Although prices have been falling for the past few months we never expected to wake up one day and see things had returned to normal, or even normal-ish. Glancing around there are still a lot of scalped GPUs on offer at both Amazon and Newegg. There are GPUs at MSRP though, which will put some heavy pressure on the scalpers out there to lower their prices.
The only issue buyers face now is the company’s 40-series cards are looming in the distance. All the rumors point to them being absolute beasts, so it’ll be a tough call for some. Especially because we don’t know if this is the actual end of the GPU shortage. As in, in September will 40-series cards be available at launch? Based on our past experience, it seems unlikely. Hopefully this continues and we can all give our F5 keys a break for the rest of the year.
