Amazon is Giving Away Over 30 PC Games on Prime Day

The past few years have been a rough ride for PC gamers. Nobody could get a GPU at a reasonable price, DDR5 memory was out of the question, and a lot of triple AAA titles came out and flopped. Cough, Battlefield 2042, cough. However, July is looking like it’s going to be a great time to be a PC gamer, if you are an Amazon Prime subscriber that is. Amazon is giving away a truckload of halfway decent games for PC this year, which is a first. It’s part of a marketing campaign promoting Prime Day, which takes place on July 12-13. This is Amazon’s annual sales event for Prime subscribers, with over a million deals on offer. It’s similar to Black Friday, but only for Prime members.

Amazon made the announcement on its blog, and there’s a surprise too. In addition to giving away a bunch of older AAA games we’ve all heard of, it’s also throwing in over 25 indie games as well. So which games are we talking about here? The highlighted titles include: Mass Effect Legendary Edition (which includes the Mass Effect trilogy), several Star Wars games, Need for Speed Heat, and Grid Legends. The Star Wars titles on offer are Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast, and Republic Commando. The Mass Effect Legendary Edition alone is three huge games along with over 40 DLC. Suffice to say, that will keep you busy for quite some time.

The AAA games will only be available on the actual Prime Days. However, members can begin downloading the Indie titles next week, starting on June 21. The indie titles include a wide range of games including Metal Slug 2, Clouds & Sheep 2, Bang Bang Racing, and many others. Members will be able to download the indie games from June 21st through July 13, when Prime Day ends.

Amazon’s Prime Gaming always has free games each month for members as a way to entice people to the service. For example, currently it’s offering Far Cry 4, Calico, WRC Fia 8 World Rally Championship, Escape From Monkey Island, Astrologaster, and Across the Grooves. Prime currently costs $14.99 a month, or $139 a year.

One thing to consider before diving in is some of the games are probably tied to different game launchers. For example its currently free Far Cry 4 says it requires Ubisoft Connect. Also, according to Kotaku, the Star Wars titles will likely require Origin. This might cause some PC gaming purists who only use Steam to turn up their nose in disgust, but hey, you can’t beat the price here. Also if you subscribe to Prime and download any of the games on offer, they are yours forever even if you let your subscription expire.
