The Best Cheap PS4 Pro Games in 2019

The PS4 Pro has been around for a few years now, so we’re starting to see discounts, refurbs, and open-box deals pop up regularly. It obviously can’t live up to the performance of a high-end PC, but it’s a very affordable way to give your 4K TV a workout on the cheap. Even better, loads of Pro-enhanced games are already affordable.

Shadow of the Colossus This ground-up remake of Team Ico's classic PS2 game is just what fans wished for. It looks and plays better than both the original release and the PS3 remaster, and it's especially nice being able to choose between 1080p60 and 1440p30 on PS4 Pro. (Buy on Amazon)

Battlefield 1 This mainline Battlefield is no longer the latest and greatest FPS, but it's still a looker. And when you factor in the improved performance that we've seen on the Pro, DICE's World War I epic is still absolutely worth picking up on the cheap. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Injustice 2 NetherRealm Studios is known for providing beautiful, smooth fighting games with tons of content for both solo play and online modes. Injustice 2 is no exception – sporting a fleshed-out story for DC fans, highly-customizable gear, and 60fps gameplay. And with the boost in resolution up to 1440p on PS4 Pro, it's an even better value. (Buy on Amazon)

Mafia III This faux-New Orleans take on the beloved Mafia franchise allows for story-telling angles that we would have never expected. Play as Lincoln Clay as he takes control of the city, and devastates the old order. Better still, Mafia III has been boosted to 1440p with improved motion blur on Sony's half-step console. (Buy on Amazon)

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Built on the very same underpinnings as Uncharted 4, this spin-off focuses on Chloe and Nadine adventuring on their own over entirely new terrain. It has all of the incredible performance capture and image quality we'd expect from any Naughty Dog game, and the jump to 1440p on Pro makes it even more stunning. (Buy on Amazon)

Watch Dogs 2 While Ubisoft's open-world hacking series had a bumpy start, the San Francisco-based Watch Dogs 2 got everything back on track. The light-hearted tone, likable characters, and gorgeous depiction of Silicon Valley sets this game apart from the self-serious and dour original entry. And since it enjoys a checkerboarded 1800p resolution and less pop-in on Pro, this game is a no brainer at its current price point. (Buy on Amazon)

Dark Souls III Back in the hands of Hidetaka Miyazaki, many fans see this installment as a return to form for the Souls series. Unfortunately, the frame pacing and input lag on the launch console left a lot to be desired. Playing on Pro won't boost the resolution, and performance is still far from perfect, but the uncapped frame rate and extra horsepower does help the game feel noticeably tighter. (Buy on Amazon)

Final Fantasy XV After changing platforms, directors, and names, Final Fantasy XV eventually crossed the finish line. And while story and performance had some issues initially, Square Enix's continued support has smoothed things out considerably. On the Pro, you'll be able to choose between three modes that, respectively, prioritize fidelity, high frame rates, or consistency. And regardless of which one you prefer, you're still better off here than on the vanilla console. (Buy on Amazon)

The Evil Within 2 Shinji Mikami, best known for his work on early Resident Evil games, returned to his bread and butter with this franchise in 2014, but the first game was painfully uneven. While he had less of a hands-on role with this sequel, The Evil Within 2 is improved in every respect. Play it on PS4 Pro, and you'll be able to choose between a more consistent frame rate or a small boost in resolution up to 1260p. (Buy on Amazon)

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End With Uncharted 4, Naughty Dog delivered one of the best-looking console games to date, and it's already been two years since its release. With refined mechanics, a wonderful story sendoff, and a fully featured multiplayer mode, it's definitely a must-play game for any PS4 owner. And if you're excited to find out what these devs have in store for The Last of Us Part II, it's worth (re)playing Uncharted 4 to see how gorgeous their tech looks on the Pro. (Buy on the Amazon)

Titanfall 2 Serving as a titanic improvement over the original installment, this sequel from Respawn Entertainment is actually the first game in the series to make it onto Sony's platform. And while the Xbox One will always serve as the franchise's home, the PS4 Pro version is well worth playing. With the dynamic resolution in place, the game mostly stays around 1440p60 – a respectable leapfrogging over the vanilla PS4's 1000p60 average. (Buy on Amazon)

Horizon: Zero Dawn – Complete Edition When it comes to this generation's console exclusives, it doesn't get better than Horizon. The "post-post-apocalypse" open world looks incredible on the PS4, and even better running at 4K on the PS4 Pro. And since this version also includes the Frozen Wilds expansion, you're getting a lot of content for just twenty bucks. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Doom id Software's Doom reboot shocked us when it hit store shelves in 2016. Not only did it successfully modernize an all-time classic, but the 60fps target on consoles was nothing to sneeze at. Years later, and it's still getting TLC from the dev team. Just a few months back, Doom received a PS4 Pro patch that ups the max resolution to 2560x1440. It's still using a dynamic scaler to keep gameplay smooth, but the extra pixels are quite lovely nonetheless. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Gravity Rush 2 Starting its life on the PlayStation Vita, this series from Sony Japan really hit its stride after the original game was remastered for the PS4, and the excellent sequel followed just a year later. It's stylish, quirky, and it even tackles some weighty issues in its story. Better yet, when it's running on the Pro, all of the geometry is rendered at 4K. Effects don't benefit the same way in the resolution department, but it's a superb way to experience Kat's latest adventure. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

The Last Guardian After helming Ico and Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2, Fumito Ueda became something of a legend in the gaming industry. The Last Guardian, his team's third game, was slated for a PS3 release, but multiple delays and internal issues meant that it had to shift platforms. And while the wait was painfully long, we do get the benefit of a much prettier game. With a near-4K resolution and HDR support, it's hard to complain with the finished product running so beautifully on the Pro. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Rocket League Still feeling the excitement from the world cup? Well, you can keep that going by adding some cars to your virtual soccer! Rocket League was a surprise hit back in 2015, and last year's 4K PS4 Pro update makes it look even better thanks to excellent checkerboarding. And since the game still mostly sticks to the 60fps target, the visual upgrade is welcome on one of our favorite competitive games. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Knack 2 The first Knack launched to lackluster reviews right alongside the PS4, so there's a good chance you missed the much-improved sequel. Knack 2 is far from a perfect game, but it's a neat little co-op beat 'em up that's worth a Jackson – especially for families with kids. And when you're running on the Pro, you'll get to choose between a checkerboarded 1800p30 mode and a 1080p60 mode depending on whether you care more about fidelity or fluidity. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Abzu As an underwater adventure game inspired by the likes of Journey, Abzu was a huge success in 2016. With a higher resolution, a more dense population of sea critters, and an improved frame rate, the PS4 Pro version is absolutely the best way to play on consoles. If you or your family love sea life, this absolutely cannot be missed. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

The Last Of Us Remastered Originally released at the tail end of the previous generation, The Last of Us ranks among the very best that Naughty Dog has to offer. Early on in the PS4's life, a 1080p remastered version was released to great acclaim, and we were overjoyed when it received even more TLC when the PS4 Pro was released. Now you have the option to play the game in glorious 2160p with high dynamic range to boot – making it well worth a replay. (Buy on the Amazon)

Firewatch Firewatch has always been a looker, but the Pro patch makes it even more enjoyable. The core gameplay now runs at 1440p, and the user interface is rendered at a native 2160p for additional clarity. If you're still on a 1080p TV, you'll enjoy improved LOD at longer distances and a handful of superior effects. And thanks to the addition of a post-release commentary track and a free-roam mode, you're getting even more bang for your buck. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider Serving as a slimmed-down follow-up to the critically acclaimed Dishonored 2, Death of the Outsider puts you in the shoes of Billie Lurk – an important NPC from previous installments. It's shorter and more-focused than the first two games, and it's available now at a very appealing price point. The tech seems pretty much identical to what Dishonored 2 was packing, so performance and resolution is on par with the 1440p30 PS4 Pro expectations. (Buy on Amazon)

Bound Smooth and precise movement is a major part of what makes an action-adventure game stand out, so it's not really surprising that someone had the idea to marry the genre with dance. The team at Plastic has created a unique and stylish game exclusively for the PS4, and it's even better on a Pro. It uses a clever trick, much like the one used in Gravity Rush 2, to render the geometry at a native 4K to provide clean edges while everything else is being up-rezed from 1080p. And as a bonus, resolution in the PSVR is boosted as well. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Mass Effect: Andromeda Andromeda received a lot of criticism last year, and much of that is entirely fair. It's disappointing for many long-time fans, but that doesn't mean that it's out-and-out bad. Much of what makes for a good Mass Effect game is still in there, but the fit and finish leaves something to be desired. So the fact that it's available at a significant discount now, and it runs at a checkerboarded 1800p on the Pro, it's absolutely worth your consideration. (Buy on Amazon)

inFamous: Second Son As one of the first major releases on the PS4, Second Son has always been something of a looker. And with the latest update in place, it's even more impressive. Not only does the HDR implementation make the mutant powers look much more vivid, it also has the ability to reach resolutions upwards of 1800p. And if you're jonesing for even more inFamous, the stand-alone DLC First Light has all the same visual improvements for just $15. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Ratchet & Clank The relatively recent Ratchet reboot delivered top-notch cartoon characters and environments – even on the vanilla PS4. And while the PS4 Pro version doesn't have the 60fps bump we hoped for, it does output at an effective 2160p thanks to some really clever behind-the-scenes sorcery. Add in HDR on top, and this is a perfect PS4 Pro showpiece for households with kids. (Buy on Amazon)

Darksiders: Warmastered Edition If a demonic Zelda game sounds appealing, this remastered version of 2010's Darksiders is well worth a couple Hamiltons. With a 60fps target, high-quality textures, much-improved post-processing, and a native resolution that beats the pants off of the PS3 and Xbox 360 original, Darksiders holds up surprisingly well for such an aged title. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition While not quite as fleshed out as its sequel, the series' first release is highly discounted now, and truly worth playing on the Pro. If you're on a 4K TV, you can enjoy dynamic scaling up to a full 4K, or simply drop it down to 1080p with visual enhancements if you're still running on an HDTV. Either way, this is a noticeable improvement over the original 2014 release. (Buy on the PlayStation Store)

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided While this most recent Deus Ex release had some performance hurdles early on, numerous patches have smoothed out the issues. As such, we're left with a much more polished experience – especially on the PS4 Pro. Not only does the dynamic checkerboard rendering reach up to 2160p, but we get HDR and improved reflections to boot. (Buy on Amazon)
