Samsung Unveils Galaxy A70 With Huge 6.7-inch Display, 32-Megapixel Selfie Camera

Samsung just launched the flagship Galaxy S10 series, but it’s not ignoring the midrange. The newly announced Galaxy A70 may offer a more appealing option compared with the extremely expensive Galaxy S10. The Android Pie-based A70 has a massive 6.7-inch display, a 32-megapixel selfie camera, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The Samsung A-series phones are usually positioned below the flagship S-series and Note phones, but higher than the J-series budget lineup. The A70 seems like the absolute top of the range, placing it within reach of the cheaper Galaxy S10e.

Speaking of the camera, that’s one of the A70’s big selling points. It has a 32-megapixel sensor on the front, which is higher than even the Galaxy S10. There’s another 32MP on the back serving as the main shooter. It also has an ultra-wide 8MP sensor and a 5MP depth sensor. The only thing you’re missing from the Galaxy S10 is the 2x telephoto camera.

Inside, Samsung is a little light on details. We know the phone will have 128GB of storage and either 6 or 8GB of RAM depending on the market. There’s no state-of-the-art Snapdragon 855, though. The A70 uses an unnamed octa-core system-on-a-chip with two 2GHz cores and six 1.7GHz cores. That suggests a midrange Samsung Exynos chip.

The A70 shares more than the screen size with the Galaxy S10 5G: it also has 25W USB-PD charging and a 4,500mAh battery. The 4G Galaxy S10 models are all 15W and have smaller batteries. The exterior of the A70 won’t look or feel as nice as the Galaxy S10, though. Samsung describes the build-quality as “3D Glastic.”

Pricing and launch markets are still unknown, though. Samsung will offer more details on the launch during its A-series event on April 10th. Considering how well the A70 compares with the Galaxy S10, Samsung will probably limit it to developing markets.
