HP’s New Gaming Laptop Has a Secondary Display Built in

Most laptops have a single display for obvious reasons, but you could make the argument that Apple’s Touch Bar is a second display. It can adjust to show useful buttons and even run various tools and apps. The newest HP gaming laptop has what is essentially a Touch Bar on steroids. Most of the action takes place on the big 15-inch on the HP Omen X 2S, but there’s a secondary 6-inch display right above the keyboard.
The main display of the HP Omen X 2S is a 15-inch IPS LCD with support for 144Hz refresh via Nvidia G-Sync. There are also 240Hz G-Sync and 4K versions of the laptop. The secondary touchscreen display is the same on all models. It’s 6 inches and clocks in at 1080p, just like the main display. HP didn’t say how much it weighs, but it’s a relatively slim (for a gaming laptop) 20mm.

HP placed the secondary screen near the main one to make it easier to glance at. However, that has consequences for the rest of the design. The keyboard has been pushed down to the bottom of the laptop. So, you won’t have the benefit of wrist rests while typing or gaming. The trackpad is far off to the lower right where the number pad would be on other similarly sized laptops. You can toggle on a number pad on the secondary display, but that’s a rather awkward place for a number pad.
