11 Best EVs and Plug-Ins of the 2018 Geneva Motor Show
Europeans take their electric vehicles seriously. That’s why we split the 2019 Geneva Motor Show into two best-of categories: combustion engine vehicles and, here, electrified vehicles. There’s enough to go around and have two 10-bests (and this one goes up to 11), especially coming out of the most world’s most significant annual auto show.
Europe’s interest in fuel efficiency goes back a long way: the need to import the majority of their petroleum products from other countries (that don’t necessarily like Europe), high gasoline prices ($6.25 a gallon is the midpoint as of early 2019), emerging rules that ban or add high fees for combustion-engine vehicles entering some big cities, and concerns over the effects on vehicle-caused air pollution and climate change. Here’s our rundown of the best electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids of the show.

The next big shows on the circuit are the every-other-year Auto Shanghai April 16-25 and the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) April 17-28. The date of the New York show floats with Easter; it opens on Good Friday, with press days Wednesday and Thursday. The Detroit show has finished its decade-long run of January dates and then shifts to June, but in 2020: press days Wednesday-Thursday, June 9-10, industry and charity previews Friday, then public days June 13-20.
